Understanding Your Club Face & Path

Posted by Hannah Pietila on Nov 14, 2017, 9:48:02 AM

There are nine different ball flights that you can create with your path and club face. I have outlined them in the chart below:

OVER THE TOP PATH

STRAIGHT PATH

INSIDE PATH

OPEN CLUB FACE

Start on line and fade

Start on line and fade

Start right and fade

SQUARE CLUB FACE

Start left and fly straight (pull)

Start on line and stay on line

Start right and fly straight

CLOSED CLUB FACE

Start left and draw

Start on line and draw

Start right and draw

There is not one that is better than the other; as long as your path matches your club face. In fact, being able to do all of them is how really good players are able to hit the shots that they need to depend on the surroundings.

I love to use my Optishot to work on hitting different shots by manipulating my path and club face. The wonderful thing about working on it when I am on my Optishot is that I can see exactly what each path and clubface produces for each club.
Drill: Plug in your Optishot and try and hit all the shots list in the chart above with the correct path and club face.

You will feel great when you are able to see your self-hit a good shot that does what you expected it to do!
